Basic Woodworking Courses 1-7 Weeks
Designed to provide a foundation for absolute beginners and those with a little experience.
This course aims to cover the basic techniques and to inspire confidence. The course content will be tailored to meet individual needs but will essentially be of a practical nature which includes the following topics:
Safety in the workshop.
Sawing and planing wood accurately.
Making strong, well fitting joints.
Fitness for purpose - which wood species is suitable for a
specific job.
Decorative features e.g. mouldings, veneering, woodturning.
Elements of design.
Use of manufactured board and modern K D fittings.
DIY techniques around the home e.g. hanging doors, fitting
locks, wall fittings.
Wood finishing - water and spirit stains, oil, polyurethane,
French polish, wax and spray finishes.
This can provide a foundation for beginners who wish to progress to the Furniture and Cabinetmaking course.
