Furniture & Cabinetmaking Courses 1-7 Weeks

 

The skills of the cabinetmaker are now much in demand as people have come to appreciate the value and importance of traditional construction methods - making furniture and cabinets correctly is essential if you want them to last.

This course shows you how. It provides a learning package tailored to the requirements of the individual, taking account of previous experience and level of confidence.

 

Whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced craftsman is unimportant, you will receive individual tuition.

 

The courses are project based i.e. students normally make furniture or cabinets which they take away when completed. During the process of planning and making the chosen project you will cover areas such as:

 

   Basic ergonomics and other design considerations.

 

   Timber seasoning and conversion.

 

   Selection and purchase of wood ancillary materials.

 

   Maintenance of tools- care, grinding and sharpening.

 

   Techniques of marking out and cutting joints e.g. housing,

   mortise and tenon, dovetails.

 

   Gluing up methods - traditional and modern.

 

   Veneering, Carving & Wood turning.

 

   Using wood finishes - spirit and water stains, oil, French

   polish, wax and spraying techniques.
